Uummannaq Town, Greenland

A traditional turf house. Rocks for the lower courses and then turves above that and pushed into gaps to stop drafts. There was an Inuit guide in the house who demonstrated things about how people would live in such houses (unfortunately the battery on my camera packed up at this point and so no flash pictures of the inside). There were lots of furs that covered the bed to lie on which gave an air of decadence.

The most striking thing was that this guide who I presumed worked for the museum was possibly the happiest and most enthusiastic man at his job I have ever encountered in my life (even more so than that bloke who drove the beach bus out of Townsville, Australia though I suspect he was stoned and so doesn't count).
