The latest storm officially dropped 20 inches of snow on McMurdo Station, but with high winds most of that snow did not stay in town. Here is evidence: Someone must have walked down this road while there was snow on it, compressing the snow underneath their feet. Then the wind picked up again and carried all the snow away - except this snow that had been compressed and hardened. Finally, later, gentler winds blew lesser amounts of snow along, forming miniature drifts around these raised footprints.
